Josh Phillips Folk Festival
It's uncanny the way this guy can make a room move. There are two things about seeing Josh Phillips on a stage that become apparent; First off, he's got this signature move, like a funky two-step that never fails to show people where the beat is and how they can get in on it. And secondly, he's extremely musical; constantly aware of the where the song is and how to relate it to the audience. At first is seems odd that Phillips would break off from his first funky success, "Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band" - a huge funky machine in it's own right that is still making people boogie - and into a project that eludes to acoustic guitars and vocal harmonies. But, such is not the case with his new band's title moniker: Folk Festival is a funky machine with a bit more control. Which in turn allows Josh to exude more control both vocally and dynamically.
Josh is an amazing song writer delivering tunes that relate to everyone involved together in the human experience, a modern day evangelist of everyone just getting along. And then when he does a cover, it's some great funky interpretation of some song you'd never think would be a good cover at all. That's right, his version of Lionel Richie's "All Night Long" was unbelievable. Who'd guess? One more sign of a great musician hard at work.
