BUG: bugs out at the Berkley Cafe
It's really great to see a young band that's so good; cause you know if they keep it up - their sound is just gonna get better and better. There's a lot of what I'd call Jam Rock in this group; definitely a dash of that phishy psychedelic mixed up with that sort of eletctronica. With a bass player that doubles on the keys, a drummer that's got a rack of e-drums next to his kit and of course a bunch of pedals in front of the guitar player, these guys transition from organic jams into pulsating dub style beats and back.
I talked w/ the guitar player, Phil Rollinson, before the show and he confirmed that they were indeed a three piece but, tonight they had a guest singer. I didn't catch her name but, she did a good job on a couple of covers right in the middle of the first set; the most memorable was a version of 'No Rain' by Blind Mellon. Not bad at all and it definitely got the obviously younger crowd going.
But, the better singer here has got to be the bass player, Chris Bagley. This guy's voice is bright, clean and pitched up pretty high. Not the sound you would expect to come from a guy that looks like he could be on the starting line of a varsity football team. Playing the bass and singing at the same time is no easy feat but, this guy makes it look simple. I kinda got vibes that were a mix of Prince and Getty Lee. These guys are all pretty young but, you can tell they've grown up together and have been refining their skill for a long time; I'm sure it's gonna be even better next time I get to see them again.

Chris Bagley - bass, keys, vox
Patrick Neilson - drums, percussion
Phil Rollinson - guitar, vox

These guys were awesome. I heard them once when they had a diff drummer they were good then to. Now they have a new sound kinda a techno rock feel. Once they get their sounds together and hear each other theyre gonna be great. I heard that theyve only been together a few weeks and they already sound this good!! i cant wait to see what they do with this. Nice sound guy. The ending few songs i thought were great where the bass was singing. The last 3 or four songs. And the song about the girl at the first set was a good and unusual sound. These guys are making their on sound id love to get to talk to them sometime and hopefully ill be in town to catch another show ne one know what their schedule of playing is??
