Now, Foo has always been a bit confused by the descriptor "pop/rock". If it is pop, how can it rock? If it rocks, how can it be pop? None the less, some silly record store exec could not find where to put stuff in between and just cheated by combining the two -and BAM! a new genre was born. (The Foo is not buying into the "soft/rock" thing either so, don't get any funny ideas!).
Regardless, true to his word, The Foo will check his personal genre feelings at the door and jump right into the wok with the Zac Mac Band to see if they can sizzle. The Zac Mac Band is comprised of some veterans from the Boston music scene. Dreamy guitars, keys and a tight rhythm section. Shiny tones fill this music inspired by Coldplay and and Snow Patrol. But, it's the lyrics that Foo finds most interesting. So we must start with this crazy title "MySpace Heartbreak".
Quite possibly a stunt to get some traffic, or just another song of heartbreak? There's lots of hits and plays for this song on their myspace page. They drop "MySpace" and "Facebook" in the same song -the song describes getting replaced by another friend or disappearing all together from a users account. Seems a bit cheesy to The Foo but, none the less the words are all well written. The verses are concise, and the hook is heavily repeated, "throw my love away.." The finally, at the end of the song, they fade out with the title of the song "It's just another MySpace heartbreak".
Foo doesn't have much on the audio here - these guys got themselves on an indie label (Night Train Records) and it's all pretty top shelf. Even the snare drum seems to have been tuned to the song (although Foo thinks it's just a tad high in the mix) Love the harmonies, wish there were more of that throughout everything they do. Foo's a reverb freak so he has to tell you again how much he likes the lead guitar style, it just floats and weaves it way through everything - very nice, especially for some music that's um...pop. Good looks, great sound - keep it up guys, Foo thinks there's a nice future in the record business for ya!
