On the guitar, I'm a 'fingerstyle' player with a Celtic World Fusion sound.
I write VISUAL music - music you can see. I divide my time between writing music for film & live guitar performance & composition. I have deep roots in guitar & piano but write for a variety of instruments. Much of my inspiration comes from the majestic beauty of Hawaii's ocean waters and sculptured land and spirit of the people on the islands. My approach to composition has also been influenced by the emotional undertones of film music and the power of filmmaking to take us places we might not otherwise experience. . I try to take listeners on a journey through many atmospheres as a way of telling a story without words - something I call "sonic cinema".
As a guitarist I have a percussive, tapping approach to my fingerstyle playing that is combined with more melodic & lyrical playing. Half my material is traditional fingerstyle and the other half is more textural ambient music using delay/echo as an instrument to weave musical ideas around. I also enjoy being a backup/support guitarist in addition to my solo career. Playing in standard tuning or adding ideas from an alternate tuning angle is always an engaging way for me to interact with other people's music.
